Lucy Malinda Scott, age 74, of Highland Springs, Virginia, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by her devoted husband, Gayle, and loving family.

Lucy was born on April 10, 1951, in Richmond, but spent her early childhood in Mecklenburg County before her family later settled in Richmond, Virginia, where the roots of her lifelong journey began to grow. She was one of seven beloved daughters and four sons of the late John Arkley Bagley and Mary Reavis Bagley. Her upbringing was rooted in love, family, and enduring values that shaped her life.

Lucy was educated in the Richmond Public Schools and proudly graduated from Virginia Randolph High School in 1969, as a member of its final graduating class. She later found joy and purpose working as a Cake Decorator at Michael’s Bakery, where her creativity and warmth touched every customer she served. She also provided private health care services and worked at a children’s nursery. Lucy’s work was more than a job — it was an extension of her generous spirit, bringing love and laughter to those around her. Raised with a deep reverence for family, kindness, and grace, she carried these values with her throughout her life, leaving a legacy of compassion and connection.

Lucy was a cherished wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, loving sister, and loyal friend. She was first married to the late Albert Hargrove, with whom she welcomed a son, DeVon Hargrove. She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Gayle Patrick Scott, Sr., and her two sons, DeVon Hargrove and Patrick Jermaine Scott (Dushunna), who carry forward her legacy of love. She embraced her extended family with open arms, including her son, Gayle Patrick Scott, Jr. (Satonya) and her daughter, Crescendo Scott-Trueheart; grandchildren, Jasmine Jones, Breshae Hargrove, JaVase Hargrove, Summer Hargrove, Destiny Hawkes, Skye Johson, Ariyanna Janae McMorris Scott, Cameron Patrick Scott, Tiara Clay, Mia Scott, Kyle Scott, Keiya Moore, Maya Scott, Deona Scott, Zuri Clay, Amari Scott, Anar’e Jackson, Bar’Kari Rudd, Ryan Clay Jr., Detwan Scott, JoVona Rudd; and a growing lineage of great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind devoted and supportive family, Darlene, Sylvia, JoAnn and LaShan.

Lucy was preceded in death by her three brothers, Arthur, David, and John Jr.; and four sisters, Nannie, Bertha, Frances and Lillian. She lives in the hearts of her surviving brother, Thomas Bagley Sr. (Jo Ann); her two sisters, Beulah Bell (Willie) and Helen Hargrove (Melvin); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will cherish her memory and miss her dearly.

Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them — whether trying new recipes, online shopping, or collecting ducks, there was always laughter and connection to those she loved. Her heart was as generous as her smile, and she never met a stranger; she greeted everyone with kindness and left them with laughter. She talked to everyone and brought joy wherever she went. Lucy’s legacy is one of love, resilience, grace and will live on in the stories we share. She was a light in the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held on 11:00 AM, Monday, October 20, 2025 at Scott’s Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Dr. Linwood Keys, officiating.
