Obituary - Joyce Flowers Hodges

Joyce Flowers Hodges, age 93, of Henrico, Virginia passed away on May 22, 2025. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ralph Maynard Hodges, her parents Kermit B. Flowers, Sr. and Blondell Miller Flowers, her sister Ann F. Perritt and her brother Kermit Boyd Flowers, Jr., She is survived by her sister Patsy F. Nance, her daughter Joy Hodges Robinson (Marc), and her son Dr. Hunter Gray Hodges (Ashley), her grandchildren Matthew Maynard Robinson (Katie), Christina Lyn Robinson (Sam), Brooke Elizabeth Hodges, and Sloan Gray Hodges (Kent).

Joyce was born in Lake View, SC Nov. 11, 1931. She met her college sweetheart Ralph in the mountains of NC at Appalachian State Teachers College (Appalachian State University). Joyce and Ralph married in 1952 and settled in Asheboro NC, where they both taught school. They moved to Richmond, VA where Joyce taught in the Henrico County Public School System.

Joyce played basketball in high school and college as well as cheerleading in college. She was an avid tennis player into her eighties. She loved all sports especially tennis and following her family and friends on the horse show circuit.

A graveside service will be held for Joyce on Sat. May 24th at 12 PM at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave. Richmond, VA. A reception will be held following the graveside service at the Deep Run Hunt Club, 1540 Manakin Rd. in Manakin Sabot, VA.
