Boddy, Jean Mathie, 86 of Richmond, Va passed away on Wednesday, August 27th. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Ruth Mathie, her daughter Jill Christine Boddy and her husband of 60 years, David Lee Boddy. She is survived by her son, Mark Edward Boddy (Emily); grandchildren, Sarah (Ralph), Rachel, and David; brother Jim Mathie (Ginnie). Born in Newton Falls Ohio, Jean attended the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) and graduated in 1961 with a nursing degree. Upon graduation, Jean worked as an intensive care nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, the Cleveland City schools during the race riots, Hiram House Camp as the camp nurse for over 20 years, taught pediatric care at Akron Children’s Hospital and as a public health nurse with the department of Cuyahoga County. In 1986, she and Dave moved to Richmond. Jean remained in public health working at the Harris Clinic, the Medical College of Virginia and finished her career at CHIP (Children’s Health Involving Parents). Jean retired at age 72 after 50 years of nursing the youngest and most vulnerable in our society. In 2015, Jean and Dave moved to Cedarfield, a continuing care facility where they made fast friends and where Jean enjoyed making cards and playing Rummikub. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Cedarfield in the Fellowship Hall, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway in Richmond, Va. on Friday, September 12th at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Carter Center, 453 John Lewis Freedom Parkway, NE Atlanta Ga. 30307.
