Obituary - James Harvey Pierce
James Harvey Pierce left this world on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the young age of 91. He was born in Sunbury, NC on August 4, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother Mozelle Rountree Pierce, his father Lloyd Q. Pierce, his sister Ruth Winslow, and his brother Lloyd R. Pierce.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Ida R. Pierce. A chance meeting at the “Circle” – a drive-in restaurant in Portsmouth, VA – proved to take them on a 69-year journey of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter Phyllis Owens (Tommy) of Rockville, VA, and his daughter Linda Shults (Jackie) of Dallas, TX; four (4) grandchildren, Lauren (Les), Andrew (Clare), Andrey and Ira; two (2) step grandchildren, Shannon (Nathan) and Renee (Sam); and many great grandchildren and step great grandchildren, Carrington, Adalaide, Olesya, Gracen, Alena, Millie, Lucy, Savannah, Magnolia, Sallie, Elizabeth, Riley, Casey, Reece and Caitlyn.
Jimmie was drafted into the Navy in December 1955 serving sea duty on the USS Bordelon. After his honorable discharge from military service, he started a lifelong career with the railroad at Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He worked at Seaboard until his retirement in 1992. His career after retirement involved managing his father’s property, buying and selling cars and enjoying family activities. He truly loved and enjoyed family, and was especially proud of his two daughters.
Jimmie’s personal interests included playing the stock market, fishing, watching NASCAR races and listening to country music.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 12th at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Memorial Park Mausoleum, 11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059. Visitation commences at 10:00a, followed by a service at 11:00a. Follow the signs to the memorial park. Lunch will be provided at noon.
