With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Grayson Gunter, a beloved son, a devoted friend, and a passionate soul, who left us far too soon on July 7, 2025, at the young age of 24. Born on December 21, 2000, in Durham, North Carolina, Grayson grew up in Virginia Beach and Henrico, Virginia, where he was known for his caring nature and bright spirit.
Grayson was a dedicated IT Specialist at Lansing Building Products, where his enthusiasm for technology and unwavering work ethic made him a treasured member of his team. His contributions to the company were remarkable, but it was his zest for life beyond work that truly defined him.
Grayson had a profound passion for military history, which reflected his diligent nature and respect for valor. He enjoyed golf and spending time at the beach, where he enjoyed quality time with friends and cultivated lasting memories. His character was unmatched; he had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met, leaving lasting impressions that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Grayson is survived by his devoted parents, Claudia Collingwood and Bruce and Jenny Gunter; his beloved grandmothers, Twyla Gunter Kulp and Bette Jones Ball; his extended family including: Kirk and Kellie Collingwood, Chip and Beth Collingwood, Lloyd and Tom Osgood, Byrd Rareshide, Stuart Gunter, Stephen and Liz Lamborn, Daniel and Summer Lamborn, Chris and Rosemary Kulp, Scott and Mary Kulp, and all of their respective children. Their love and support shaped the kind-hearted man he became, and their grief echoes the immense loss of a son, stepbrother, nephew, cousin, and friend who brought joy to their lives.
In celebration of his life, family and friends will gather to honor Grayson’s memory and reflect on the incredible impact he made on everyone who was fortunate to cross his path. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 12291 River Rd, Richmond, VA 23238.
As we remember Grayson, we take solace in the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind. Though his time with us was too short, his light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can made to The Lansing Foundation, lansingfoundation.org.
