Obituary - Hubert Dale Matthews
With heavy hearts but fond memories, we celebrate the life of Hubert Dale Matthews, who passed away on January 27, 2026. Born on September 12, 1960, in Washington, D.C., Dale lived a life rich in love, dedication, and community spirit. A proud resident of Glen Allen, Virginia, he is remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Dale's professional journey spanned over 30 years in the automotive industry, where he made his mark as a Commercial Account Manager at notable companies such as Auto Trader, Richmond Ford, and Colonial Ford. His passion for sports led him to dedicate over ten plus to coaching youth baseball and football in Glen Allen, leaving a positive impact on countless young athletes.
He is survived by his beloved children, Natasha Frelin, Carrington Matthews, Christopher Matthews, and Chad Matthews, as well as his cherished granddaughters, Alana Frelin, Nicolette Frelin, and Annalise Frelin. Dale will also be remembered by his father, Arthur Hardy; his brothers, Earl Dean Matthews, Duane Hardy (Cammy), Dennis Hardy (Liliana); aunts, Judy Sartain (Karen), Nancy Cawley (Kim), and Loretta Harrow (Charles); cousin, Warren Harrow (Jill); and a large extended family, including many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert W. Matthews and Roberta Sartain Hardy, and his son, Dakota Matthews.
In honor of Dale's vibrant life and his impact on the community, we invite everyone to come together, reminisce, and celebrate the joys Dale brought into our lives. A Celebration of Dale's life will occur at the Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Rd., Henrico, VA, on Saturday, February 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Join us as we share stories, laughter, and memories, keeping his spirit alive in our hearts.
