Gwen Gardner (Crowder), 82, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, E.A. and Bernice L. Crowder; her sister, Debbie Collins; and her brother, E.A. Crowder Jr.

Gwen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ronnie; her four children, Todd (Joanne) Gardner, Timmy (Pam) Gardner, Brady (April) Gardner, and Kelly (Brett) Tennant; her cherished grandchildren, Kristina, Peyton, Jack, and Christian Gardner, Kenzie Tennant, and Caitlin (Will) McEwen. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Pam (Harm) Fisher; her lifelong friend, Maryann Crowder; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who adored her. A proud graduate of Douglas Freeman High School, Gwen was a spirited member of the Class of 1961 who was remembered as the “Never Before Never Again” class. She was elected “Most School Spirited”, was a true “Rebel Born, Rebel Bred,” and sang, danced, and cheered her way through all 7 years. Gwen was a treasured member of the “Goodies” friend group who shared countless memories together. Gwen was an active member of the Chestnut Oaks neighborhood pool, where she played on the tennis team, supported the swim team moms, and was a vibrant part of the “Circle” of friends, who spent many joyful summers together. Known for her warmth, humor, and boundless energy, Gwen was truly the life of every party. The family extends their deepest gratitude to her daughter-in-law, Pam Gardner, for her unwavering compassion and care during Gwen’s final years. They also wish to thank their neighbor, Horace Lecky, for his kindness and support during times of need.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Raymond of Derbyshire Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow, with the location to be announced at the service.
