Gonzalee Turman Proffitt, known to family and friends as “Lee,” age 80, of Henrico County, Virginia, formerly of Rockville, Virginia, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Golden and Lillian Epperson Turman; her brothers, Golden (Douglas), Raiford, and Roy Turman; her sister, Gwendola; and her husband, James “Jim” Proffitt.  She is survived by her brother, Julian Turman and his wife, Pearl; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Turman, and Judy Turman-Smith; her sons, James Proffitt III and David Proffitt; her daughters-in-law, Tammy Smith and Jennifer Proffitt; her grandchildren, Dylan and Susan Roberts, Cody and Blaire Roberts, and Katelyn Proffitt and Jared Swift; and her great-granddaughter, Arianna Roberts.

Gonzalee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She began her career as a keypunch operator and later held a number of administrative positions throughout the Richmond area, including serving as an office manager for Sears. She made Hanover County her home for many years, residing in Rockville, Virginia enjoying the peace of country living. In retirement, she moved to Saint Mary’s Woods in Henrico County. Her interests included photography, gardening, and time spent outdoors.

A faithful member of Goochland Baptist Church, Gonzalee volunteered in numerous support roles. She especially valued her work with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to members of the local community.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Goochland Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goochland Baptist Church, 2454 Manakin Road, Manakin-Sabot, Virginia 23103.
