Obituary - Eugene James Mallory

Eugene “Boo” James Mallory, was the oldest child born to the late Bennie & Gladys Mallory on December 14, 1938 and entered eternal rest on August 8, 2025. Boo accepted Christ at a very young age. He attended Virginia Randolph school where he played football, baseball, played an instrument and was a talented artist. He attended Virginia Union University playing football there and later served in the US Air Force.
After his military service, he worked on the railroad, owned and operated 1st Street Market in Jackson Ward. After it closed, he was a supervisor with Arrow Rentals and later a supervisor with public works for the City of Richmond. He eventually retired as a bus driver for Henrico County Public Schools in 2020.
On April 3, 1971, Eugene married his partner for life, Ann Marie Wood Mallory. Boo and Ann loved to travel. They enjoyed cruises that took them all over the world and bus trips to neighboring states. The highlight of their year was attending the Hampton Jazz Festival which they did for 45 years straight. As a family man, he was a loving father to Sharon and Mark and loved being a grandfather and great-father to Farley, Zuri, Nyla and Jordyn.
As a proud descendant of one of the first families of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Glen Allen, Boo faithfully served his church for many years as a Trustee, the Historical Ministry and the Nifty After Fifty Seniors Ministry. Boo loved to sing! He was active for many years with the Mount Olive Male Chorus, the Senior Choir and the Gospel Voices of Glen Allen. A talented musician, he played the trumpet professionally with “Mike Harris and the Imperials”. He loved watching football and cheering for his Dallas Cowboys and he loved to talk and debate about politics for hours.
Boo was predeceased by his beloved wife Ann Marie Wood Mallory in 2017. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Sharon Dabney-Wooldridge; son Mark Wood Mallory (Tyee); Grandson RET Master Sergeant Farley Wooldridge (Kathy); granddaughters Zuri Ann and Nyla Marie; Great granddaughter Jordyn; Brother Alvin Mallory, Sr; Sister Barbara Jean Mallory, devoted cousin Charles Anderson; devoted cousin Irvin Mallory Bey; nephew Alvin (Chip) Mallory, Jr. (who assisted in his care) and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends near and far.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where viewing will be held Wednesday, August 20 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 8775 Mt. Olive Road, Glen Allen, VA. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.
