Elaine Staples, 87, of Henrico, Virginia passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026.

Elaine was born in Washington, DC to Golda and Thurston Presgrave. She married Charles "Chase" Cabell Staples in 1966. Elaine began her career as a paralegal and worked her way up to being the business manager of a local law firm. A dedicated and respected professional, she remained committed to her work until her retirement in 2006.

Elaine - lovingly known as "Nana" - cherished her family more than anything and would brag to anyone who would listen about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a fierce supporter, going to as many games, shows, school events, etc. as she could to watch her children and grandchildren play or perform.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Chase (2020). She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Rick Jacobson (2024). Elaine is survived by her four children, Sandy Jacobson; Bruce Staples (Nancy); Christy Holton (Tom); and Charles Cabell Staples, Jr. (Nicky), as well as ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte Bernier.

Elaine lived a long life, filled with love and laughter. While Elaine had many passions - sewing, knitting, quilting, shopping, cooking, organizing, labeling things - by far, her greatest joy was her family. She left her children and grandchildren with many funny stories and fond memories that will continue to bring smiles for years to come. We will forever be grateful for the time we shared with her and will miss her dearly.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Ola and Emily of Caring Home for the love and compassionate care they provided during the final months of her life. We are very grateful for their pampering and love of our Mom during that special time.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 9th at 4:00pm, at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A reception will follow at the home of Sandy Jacobson. Additional details will be provided at the service.

Her joy was her family, and her greatest legacy is the love she leaves behind.
