E. Earl Maxey, 95, of Henrico, VA, joined his Savior on Monday, November 3, 2025. Earl was the son of Benny Wyatt Maxey and Ruby Snoddy Maxey. He was the third of twelve children.
Family and faith were the two most important facets of Earl’s life. He was a loving husband to Shirley M. Maxey for 60 years and a devoted father to his three daughters. Earl also cherished his role as “Papa” to his five grandchildren. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family.
As a member of Ridge Baptist Church for nearly 70 years, Earl served in many capacities, including deacon chair, Sunday School teacher, Promise Care Child Development Center Committee chair, usher, and unofficial Floral Committee assistant. He welcomed opportunities to serve at Ridge and in the community.
Earl was a strong believer in hard work and education. He served proudly as an Army payroll specialist in Japan from 1951 – 1953. Earl later earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University while working full-time. His career included work in finance at the George H. Meyer Meat Packing Company, Belleville Supply Company, and Bank of America.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and nine of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters Kimberley Woodard (Curt), Jennifer Herndon (Shawn), and Laurie Tucker; and grandchildren Michael Woodard, Cain and Addyson Herndon, and Lukas and Ella Tucker; two sisters, June Jeter and Mary Newman; and many family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A service to celebrate Earl’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 12:30 p.m. at Ridge Baptist Church, located at 1515 Eastridge Road in Henrico. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Westhampton Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ridge Baptist Church, allowing his legacy of service to continue.
