Obituary - Charlotte Ann Tuggle Branson
Charlotte Ann Tuggle Branson, 88, born on April 21, 1937, loving wife and mother, transitioned to our Lord in Henrico, Virginia, on March 2, 2026.
Charlotte attended grade school at the Henderson Elementary School for five years, Hayters Gap School for two years, and then transferred to Meadowview High School in Washington County, Virginia, where she graduated in 1954. In 1957, she received her Registered Nurse degree from Johnston Memorial Hospital, in Abingdon, Virginia. Her post-graduate training in obstetrics during 1959 and 1960, was accomplished at The Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She married Donald Gene Branson of Washington County, Virginia on August 28, 1960 in the Abingdon United Methodist Church. While working as the head nurse of an MCV nursery and subsequently as the head nurse of an OB-GYN floor at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia from 1960 to 1964, she received her PHT (“Putting Hubby Through”) degree while having two of her three sons. After moving eleven times in her first ten years of marriage, Charlotte raised her three sons in Forest, Virginia, of Bedford County, while volunteering for numerous church, school, and Lynchburg activities. She also became certified in several occupational health skills as she and her husband developed the practice of occupational medicine from 1986 to 2009 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Charlotte was known for her love of God, a gentle, kind, and intelligent spirit, loyalty to family, a wonderfully subtle sense of humor, and incredible tolerance for negotiating family rural life in the Forest, Amherst, and Lynchburg, all in Virginia. She loved her daughters-in-law and strived to be the best mother-in-law (mother-in-love). She lived to impart wisdom and insight to her daughters-in-law and be a lovely grandmother to their children.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003, Charlotte and her husband moved to the Cedarfield Continuing Care Community in Henrico, Virginia, in 2013.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, Matt; parents, Dixie Dale Henderson Tuggle and Lewis Henry Tuggle; and her seven brothers and sisters, Margaret Esther, Vivian Dixie, Lewis Henry, Gladys Roberta, James Edwin, Robert Allen, and John Milton.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; their two sons, Steve (Maria), Alan (Susan); daughter-in-law, Nicole; ten grandchildren, three great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, five maternal nieces, 4 maternal nephews, and all the wonderful family accompianed with them.
Her ashes will be interred in the Hiram Henderson Family Cemetery in Poor Valley, Virginia, and with her husband’s family in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia.
