Reverend Betsy Grissom, a shining light of love, faith, and wisdom, peacefully departed this life on November 21, 2025. She was born on August 13, 1947, in Raleigh, North Carolina to the late Bessie Burt Watson and the late Dencile Watson. Betsy was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Linda Watson, with whom she shared a deep and loving bond.

From her earliest days, Betsy carried a spirit full of compassion, joy, and resilience — qualities she generously shared with everyone blessed to know her.

Betsy was the devoted mother of her beloved daughter, Chelsea, and the proud grandmother of Karma and Ari, who brought her endless happiness. She especially loved spending time with Karma — laughing, talking, and creating memories she held close to her heart. Also surviving are her loving niece Brandy Watson; great-nieces and great-nephews, Ashanti, Laila, JaKayla, JaBarri, Joydan, Ari, and Quin Watson — each of whom she cherished dearly. She also shared a special and unbreakable bond with her goddaughter, Genev Clark, who loved her immensely. Their relationship was filled with warmth, loyalty, and mutual affection.

Education and service were central to Betsy’s life. She graduated from Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, an accomplishment she carried with pride. In 1995, she began her impactful career with Henrico County Public Schools, touching countless lives with her dedication and compassion. Her commitment to education continued as she earned another degree from Virginia Union University in 2017. She also served her community through her work at the Richmond Technical Center, guiding young people toward confidence and opportunity.

Betsy loved going to church and lived her faith with sincerity, devotion, and joy. She enjoyed spending time with friends, laughing, connecting, and uplifting those around her. She adored dressing beautifully, expressing her unique style with elegance and confidence. She was known for speaking her mind — always honest, always bold, and always true to who she was. Her warm personality, sense of humor, and radiant presence made her unforgettable.

Her calling to ministry shaped her heart and her walk — she comforted, encouraged, and uplifted everyone she encountered. Rev. Betsy Grissom leaves behind a powerful legacy of encouragement, strength, and unwavering love.
