Obituary - Bernard Robinson
Bernard Robinson, of Richmond, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the Bon Secours Compassus House. For 96 years and four months, Bernard lived a life of peace, love, hope and joy! Bernard was the son of the late John and Florence Christian Robinson of Sandston, Virginia.
Bernard was dedicated to his wife, children, church family and community friends. Everyone that he worked with in the community, church and Henrico County Public Schools loved Mr. Robinson. He impacted so many lives whether it was the children at school or staff as they all began to fondly call him grandpa too. Children that attended the Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church Day Care loved Mr. Robinson as well. Out in the community many students still recognized him and thanked God for him and his guidance in their early lives.
A devoted member of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church (Richmond), he served as an older Trustee, Male Usher and Men’s Ministry member. He was also a member of the Henrico County Retirees Association. He loved sports and was a devout Redskins, Philadelphia 76ers and Baltimore Orioles fan.
Left to cherish his fond memories are his dedicated, devoted and loving wife, Shirley Brown Robinson; sons, Michael Robinson and Arthur Davis (Bertie); daughters Evelyn and Diane Robinson and devoted caregiver Renita Brown Thornton (Rev William, Jr); several grandchildren among them are Mark Robinson, Renata Brown Watkins (Navelle, Sr), Erica Robinson, William S Thornton III (Jasmine), Eric Thornton, Sr (Apollonia); great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and many friends.
A gentle giant that stood firm with big strong hands that could fix anything. He had a heart of gold filled with so much compassion, wisdom and love. Well done! Well done husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend. You were everything to us and you will never be forgotten. You are forever planted in our hearts and memories. Each morning that we are granted to be alive we will continue to thank God for allowing you to have been in our lives. We love You, but God loves you and He needs you too. When we see the sun and feel the rain, we know that you are with us. There are no such words that can describe what you mean to us, as we will cherish every memory. What you have given to each of us with God’s help will carry us through. Take your rest. You deserve it!
