Obituary - Alma Lee Hodges Wright
Wright, Alma Lee Hodges, age 99 of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026. Alma was born on June 3, 1926, in Goochland, VA. After graduating from high school, Alma moved to Richmond, VA where she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. After raising her three daughters, she worked for Henrico County Schools. Alma was a faithful member of Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church. She devoted her time to the church in many ways, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Girls in Action Mission Group, Women’s Missionary Union, Deaconess, Finance Committee and Church Secretary. Alma had numerous talents and hobbies that included sewing, cross-stitch, reading, gardening, traveling, and genealogy research. Her most passionate love was her family. She loved raising three daughters and being involved in all the activities they were in. Alma treasured being a Grandmother too. She had six wonderful grandchildren and cherished spending as much time with them as she could. She also had thirteen great-grandchildren that she loved dearly.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. Hodges and Etta Layne Hodges, and four brothers, Joseph T. Hodges, Milton E. Hodges, Cleveland J. Hodges, and Raymond D. Hodges, and three sisters, Myrtis V. Hodges Smith, Lily B. Hodges Hawk, and Rosa Mae Hodges Hawk. Alma’s husband of 68 years, William Nelson Wright, also preceded her in death in 2015.
Alma is survived by her three daughters, Pamela Wright Williams (Kenneth) of Chesapeake, VA, Jean Wright Snow (Roger) of Chesterfield, VA and Jill Carol Steel (Fred) of Smith Mountain Lake, VA. Alma’s six grandchildren are: William J. Snow (Nicole), Pamela J. Snow Sadler (Trey), and Brian N. Snow, Danielle Steel Bolt (Adam). Lauren Steel Brigida (Ben) and William (Billy) Steel (Ellen). Alma’s great-grandchildren are Ava, Isabella, Katleigh, Rilynn, Bentleigh, Greyson, Brian, Jr., Leanna, AJ, Skylar, Theo, Charlotte, and Violet.
Alma was loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed by many family members and friends. Alma will be laid to rest beside her husband, William N. Wright in Greenwood Memorial Garden Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
