Richmond Raceway will host the NASCAR Youth Series' National 2025 Tour Aug. 14-16, track officials announced Wednesday. Drivers ages 5 to 16 will race in the drift and bus parking lots near Laburnum Lot C, as a lead up to the Cook Out 400 NASCAR Cup Series Race Aug. 16. The Youth Series events are free for spectators.

“We cherish the opportunity to host our sport’s future superstars with the NASCAR Youth Series,” said Richmond Raceway President Lori Collier Waran. “These young, talented racers will surely display their early prowess behind the wheel as we celebrate a stacked weekend of racing in the commonwealth.”

The NASCAR Youth Series presented by Cook Out is the sanctioning body for the quarter-midget racing division of the United States Auto Club. It's designed as a family-oriented motorsport that involves children ages 5 to 16 racing in specially prepared cars, with rules and safety procedures also designed specifically for kids.

Quarter-midget racing is divided into 15 divisions. Kids typically race on oval dirt, concrete or asphalt tracks approximately 1/20th of a mile long. With almost 60 NASCAR Youth Series-sanctioned clubs located all across the country, thousands of kids ages five and up, along with their families, participate in quarter-midget racing.

A quarter-midget car is a scaled down version of an actual midget racer. The cars are built around a tubular frame and are fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shocks. The bodies are fiberglass. The engines are single cylinder and are manufactured by Honda and Briggs & Stratton.

Many well-known NASCAR drivers started their racing careers behind the wheel of a quarter-midget, including NASCAR legends Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney, along with current stars such as Justin Allgaier, Harrison Burton, Ryan Preece, Chase Briscoe, Justin Haley and Todd Gilliland.
