A Glen Allen physician was among seven physicians statewide honored at the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation’s annual Salute to Service Awards at its Physicians Gala Oct. 25. David E. Rapp was cited for his service to the uninsured and underinsured. The MSV Foundation created the annual Salute to Service Awards in 2004 to recognize the efforts of physicians, residents, and medical students throughout Virginia.


Gov. Glenn Youngkin recently announced additional appointments to his administration: Motor Vehicle Dealer Board – Joe Gopaul of Henrico, owner of Capital Motors, LLC; Renal Disease Council - Pavan Annamaraju, MD, FASN of Glen Allen, physician at Richmond Nephrology Associates; State Air Pollution Control Board – David Hudgins of Henrico, president and CEO of The Hudgins Group, LLC; Student Advisory Board – Wilson Lucas of Henrico, student; Statewide Independent Living Council – Michelle C. Whittingham of Henrico, CEO of DIVERSITY; Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Authority Board of Directors – Dr. Wally R. Smith of Glen Allen, professor of Medicine at VCU.


McDaniel College in Maryland recently awarded Riley Waite of Glen Allen with an Educator Legacy Scholarship valued at up to $132,000, or $33,000 annually over four years. Waite is a graduate of Glen Allen High School. Students with a parent or guardian with at least four years of current employment at a pre-K-12 school or community college can apply for this guaranteed scholarship to attend McDaniel College. Any service qualifies, such as teachers, administrators, counselors, or support staff, as long as the employment is directly through the school or college. The Educator Legacy Scholarship is among the largest scholarships offered at McDaniel and honors McDaniel's tradition of producing top educators.


Sophie M. Levengood of Henrico was named to first honors on the spring 2025 dean’s list at Clark University in Massachusetts. To be eligible for this distinction, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.8 or higher.
