Gov. Abigail Spanberger recently appointed four Henrico residents to state boards: Virginia Parole Board – Tyrone Nelson (Varina representative on the Henrico Board of Supervisors and pastor of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church); Virginia Commission on Higher Education Board Appointments – Lisa Roday (author and former attorney); LGBTQ+ Advisory Board – Stephanie Merlo, vice president of Collaborative Arts Initiative; and Richard Bland College Board of Visitors – Perry Miller, president and CEO of Capital Region Airport Commission.


Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, recently inducted the following local students: LaRon Pryor (University of Maryland Global Campus), of Glen Allen; and Madison Reid (Louisiana State University Shreveport), Sophie Ellis (Virginia Tech), Natalie Falls (Longwood University), Eileen Ordonez (University of Alabama at Birmingham), George Pellei (Virginia Tech), Makayla Simmons (Longwood University) and Audrey Clement, of Henrico. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.


The following local students graduated in December from the Georgia Institute of Technology: Sajid Awadalla, Rhea Garg, Shiv Balodi, Troy Lamphere and William Pardo, of Glen Allen; and Pranaav Rao, Tyler Netek, Khalid Monawar and Francis King, of Henrico.


Javier Rodriguez of Glen Allen was named to the fall 2025 dean’s list at Georgia Institute of Technology. To qualify for this honor, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
