Jalen Pierce of Henrico recently was named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District Men’s Basketball Team. He is a student at Wilson College in Pennsylvania. Selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), the Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.


Local residents recently were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. New members from Virginia Commonwealth University include: Aisha Boodai, Alysha Nakoneczny, Ashley Yandell, Brittany Thompson, Deborah Karp-Leiss, Elisabeth Burns, Jonathan Wells, Kathryn Kosloski, Mary Sumner, Molly Bates, Sterling DeMascio, Thea Racelis, Anna Estep, Arelea Canselo, Drew Parton, Elizabeth Mikula, Freddy Gatty, Jennifer Conlee, Mitchell Cone, Rattandeep Kaur and Stephen Humphrey, of Henrico; and Edyta Polkosnik, Matthew Ross, Sarah Hoang and Abhishek Dasgupta, of Glen Allen. Other new members from Henrico County include: Amanda Deitz (Longwood University), Christian Jenkins (University of Maryland Global Campus), Madyson McRay (James Madison University), Matthew Rowe (James Madison University) and Sarah Shumate (Marymount University).


Members of the University of Maryland Global Campus chapter of the National Society of Leadership Success (NSLS) recently completed the Foundations of Leadership program during the 2024-25 academic year, including Dexter Hurt and Ricardo Pinzon of Henrico. Foundations of Leadership is a four-step development program that prepares students to be effective leaders in their lives and careers. NSLS encourages community action, volunteerism, personal growth, and strong leadership from its chapters and members around the world.


Everett Garner of Henrico was named to the fall 2024 dean’s list at Simmons University in Massachusettes. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester.
