Navigating Medicare can be confusing, but a free upcoming event aims to make the process clearer.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Richmond VA Medical Center will host a “Medicare & More” information session on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the facility’s Multipurpose Room, 1201 Broad Rock Boulevard in Richmond. The program is presented in partnership with Managed Senior Services.

Topics will include the four parts of Medicare (A, B, C and D), differences between Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans, upcoming changes to drug coverage such as the new $2,000 spending cap, and options for those still working.

Other subjects will include Medicare Disability, low-income subsidy and Medicaid eligibility, and benefits available to veterans and retired military personnel.

The session will not include a sales pitch, organizers said, but instead will provide attendees with unbiased guidance from professionals who represent consumers rather than insurance companies.

The event is free, but registration is required and available online here.
