LeVere Bolling receives Virginia Professional Fire Fighters Legislator of the Year award
The Virginia Professional Fire Fighters recently named Henrico Delegate Destiny LeVere Bolling (D-80th) its Legislator of the Year for 2025.
The annual award wass presented at the VPFF legislative conference in Richmond and is a recognition of Bolling's efforts during last year's General Assembly session.
“Since taking office in 2023, Del. LeVere Bolling has consistently become one of the strongest champions for firefighters in the commonwealth,” said Robert Bragg, president of the VPFF. “Last session, she was the chief patron of House Bill 1933, which clarified the definition of throat cancer in the existing workers’ compensation code covering firefighters. The change in this legislation, which was signed into law by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, will help many Virginia firefighters and families receive important medical and financial benefits if they develop occupational cancer.”
LeVere Bolling also was a co-patron of HB1284 (collective bargaining legislation), a co-patron of HB2060 the association's PTSD bill and a co- patron of HB2204 (its Line of Duty Act bill).
“Since being elected, Del. LeVere Bolling has achieved a 100 percent voting record on our legislative agenda,” Bragg said.
LeVere Bolling is a graduate of the University of Richmond and George Washington University and is the communications director for the AFL-CIO of Virginia, serving more than 330,000 union members and their families statewide. She also currently serves as the House Majority Caucus Whip.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters,” LeVere Bolling said. “Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and they deserve leaders who will fight just as hard for their health, safety and families. This award reflects the important work we’ve done together to protect Virginia’s firefighters, whether that’s strengthening workers’ compensation laws, expanding access to benefits, or recognizing the long- term health risks of the job.
The Virginia Professional Fire Fighters is a labor organization representing more than 10,000 firefighters, emergency medical providers and 911 communications officers throughout Virginia. Established in 1955, the VPFF supports 67 local affiliates of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
