Kinsale Capital Group, Inc. celebrated the completion of the first phase of its Kinsale Center in Henrico's Near West End Nov. 12 during a ceremony attended by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura and other local and state officials, among others.
The Phase 1 completion allowed Kinsale, a specialty insurance group, to open its expanded headquarters for its more than 700 employees.
The ribbon-cutting marked the culmination of a significant renovation of the former Anthem office building at 2025 Staples Mill Road. The first phase of the project included the renovation of about 254,000 square feet of office and commercial space, positioned at the heart of a larger, estimated $500-million mixed-use project that will take shape on nearly 30 acres of land that formerly was primarily surface parking.
The renovation transformed a 1960s-era structure into a modern office building with a striking new glass façade and a fully reshaped interior that provides a collaborative environment.
Subsequent phases will include a multi-story hotel, upscale apartments, additional office buildings and a new parking deck.
Members of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors, Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas, members of the Henrico Economic Development Authority, development partners, and other guests attended Wednesday's ceremony.
“Kinsale’s new headquarters signals the beginning of an exciting next chapter for our company,” said Kinsale Chairman and CEO Michael P. Kehoe. “This milestone, achieved through close collaboration with our development partners and the strong support of Henrico County, lays the foundation for continued growth and innovation. Beyond serving as our new home, this project will anchor a larger development that brings new hospitality and commercial amenities to the community — enhancing the vitality of the area for years to come.”
Youngkin noted that the project underscores Virginia’s competitive business environment and the benefits of public-private partnerships in driving economic growth and innovation.
Henrico Board of Supervisors Chair Dan Schmitt (Brookland District) said the project was a win for the entire community.
“Transforming an aging office building into a sleek, modern headquarters for over 700 employees not only aligns with our strategic Henrico Tomorrow initiative to elevate office spaces countywide but also brings new energy to the community and sets the stage for the remaining phases of the bold, innovative Kinsale Center redevelopment, reinforcing Henrico as a hub for business growth,” Schmitt said.
