The Richmond Floorball Club will host its first-ever Richmond Floorball Showcase March 13–15 at the RCSSC Annex, located at 7505 Ranco Road in Henrico, introducing a new annual event aimed at growing the sport locally while welcoming newcomers and competitive players alike.

Tournament registration for the showcase closes March 11, with nearly three full teams already committed to participate.

Floorball is a fast-paced indoor sport played in more than 80 countries worldwide. The Henrico event is designed to make floorball more accessible to beginners while still providing structured competition, according to the club. Unlike the Atlantic Floorball Open — which draws teams from across the region to Richmond each summer — the Showcase is focused primarily on building local participation in the sport.

“Most of us playing now hadn’t even heard of floorball five years ago,” said Nick Baldaino, president of Richmond Floorball Club. “Richmond gave us an opportunity to try it, some of us stayed — and that’s how this grew. The Atlantic Floorball Open was a success and primed for expansion, but our priority is still home. The Showcase is our way of introducing the sport differently — keeping it safe, welcoming, and low-pressure, while still offering structured play for those who want to grow.”

Since launching in June 2025 at the Powhatan Ice Den, the club has attracted more than 150 unique participants and typically welcomed 60 to 70 weekly players prior to hosting its first Atlantic Floorball Open tournament. That event drew competitors from five states and two countries and is scheduled to return this summer for its second year.

The Richmond Region Tourism Foundation recently awarded the club support through its Sports Grant Program for the 2026 Atlantic Floorball Open, helping ensure the event continues to bring visitors to the region.

“The Richmond Region Tourism Foundation’s Sports Grant Program exists to champion local organizations that are expanding opportunity through sport,” said Morgan Kenley of Richmond Region Tourism. “When clubs like Richmond Floorball Club create new pathways for participation and attract regional visitors, it benefits our entire community.”

The Showcase will also feature visiting players from a new Pennsylvania-based organization, the Pittsburgh Forge. The team, led by John Spigelmyer, will travel to Richmond to compete and learn more about the sport as floorball continues to grow along the East Coast.

“As the Northeast region continues to gain awareness of floorball and its place within the hockey community, we expect to see significant growth in interest as clubs collaborate and compete,” Spigelmyer said.

The three-day event will include beginner open play sessions and a 4-on-4 tournament using modified International Floorball Federation rules. The tournament will feature round-robin play Saturday morning, followed by semifinals and a championship game Sunday.

A $40 weekend pass includes tournament play and all open sessions, while individual open sessions cost $5. Equipment will be provided, and no prior experience is required.

The Richmond Floorball Club is a Virginia nonstock corporation dedicated to expanding the sport across Central Virginia through leagues, clinics, tournaments and open play opportunities.
