Henrico Recreation and Parks will celebrate the grand reopening of the Three Lakes Nature Center with three days of events, Sept. 11-13.

The festivities will begin at 10 a.m., Sept. 11, with a ribbon-cutting and dedication at Three Lakes Park, 400 Sausiluta Drive in Northern Henrico. A community celebration will follow until 3 p.m., featuring guided tours of the renovated center, vendors, a bounce house, DJ, selfie station, face painting, a water wagon and fire truck. Guests also will be able to enjoy free Kona Ice, with other concessions available for purchase.

On Friday, Sept. 12, an outdoor concert from 5 STARR will take place at 7 p.m., and then on Sept. 13, the celebration will conclude with an outdoor showing of the movie "Ice Age" at 7 p.m.

The $4.6 million renovation project began in January and transformed the Nature Center’s main atrium with new Virginia wildlife exhibits and an interactive sandbox. Additional upgrades include an outdoor classroom, interpretive play areas highlighting the frog life cycle, a new entrance walkway with seating and lighting, and a mile of newly paved trail.

A new restroom building is scheduled for completion in early 2026, and work is underway on a second phase of renovations to further enhance the facility.
