Some Henrico County residents and businesses are being targeted with fraudulent emails and invoices purporting to be from Henrico's Planning Department, according to county officials.

The emails, sent from a non-Henrico-affiliated email address (planninghenrico.gov@usa.com), are not from Henrico County and should be deleted, according to officials.

The emails appear to be targeting people who have cases before the county’s Board of Zoning Appeals and are attempting to convince the targeted individual or business to make a significant payment by wire transfer to allow the planning case to proceed.

But the county's Planning Department does not request payments in this manner and does not conduct transactions by wire transfer, officials said.

Anyone who has responded to one of the fraudulent emails should call Henrico Police at (804) 501-5000.
