Qualifying homebuyers and home builders interested in participating in Henrico County’s affordable housing initiative can get information and ask questions at an event Thursday, June 12.

“Keys to Homeownership: Learning about housing resources and the Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund” is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Henrico Sports and Events Center, 1 All Star Boulevard. The information fair is free and open to the public and will be held as an open house; attendees are welcome to arrive at any time during the event.

Prospective homebuyers will be able to discuss homeownership programs with staff from the county’s nonprofit partners including Partnership for Housing Affordability, Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia, the Maggie Walker Community Land Trust, Local Initiatives Support Corporation Virginia and Virginia Housing.

Attendees also can learn about homes that are now available or soon will be through the Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund from the program’s home builder partners, including Mungo Homes, HHHunt Homes, StyleCraft Homes, Ryan Homes and Center Creek Homes.

The Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund is designed to help first-time homebuyers whose annual income falls below a certain level purchase a home in Henrico at a more affordable price, said Revitalization Specialist Emily Hurley of the county’s Department of Community Revitalization.

“At the Henrico Department of Community Revitalization, we understand that buying your first home has never been more challenging,” Hurley said. “The Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund seeks to increase the number of affordable homes and help county residents realize the dream of homeownership. We encourage prospective first-time buyers to attend 'Keys to Homeownership.'”

Hurley noted that the information fair also is open to home builders and developers who want to learn more about the incentives Henrico can offer for-profit and nonprofit builders and developers that create quality, affordable housing in the county.

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors created the $60 million Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund in May 2024 to help residents priced out of the local housing market gain access to affordable homeownership. Sales of the first homes developed under the program were completed earlier this spring.
