Henrico to host Feb. 12 meeting about Lakeside Avenue, Brook Road enhancement projects
Henrico County officials will host a public information meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12 in Belmont Recreation Center’s Grand Ballroom to provide information about two enhancement projects being planned along Brook Road and Lakeside Avenue.
The Brook Road Improvements project aims to make changes between Villa Park Drive to Hilliard Road to improve traffic flow and provide pedestrian accommodations, while the Lakeside Avenue Bike and Pedestrian Improvements project will improve safety and increase pedestrian access and connectivity between Brook Road and Fairway Avenue.
The Brook Road project, anticipated to cost $24 million, is aimed at boosting traffic flow and strengthening pedestrian accommodations along the road between Hilliard Road and Villa Park Drive. Plans call for a 5-foot sidewalk on the east side of Brook Road, new pedestrian crossing facilities at multiple locations, and access-management features such as concrete medians and dedicated turn lanes.

Design work is underway, right-of-way acquisition is slated to begin in the spring, and utility relocation will follow in 2027. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028.
The project also will include a reconfiguration of the intersection at Lakeside Avenue and Brook Road.
The $5.7-million Lakeside Avenue project will involve the stretch between Brook Road and Fairway Avenue and will include traffic-calming measures, a 10-foot shared-use path on the north side of the roadway, and a 5-foot sidewalk along the south side.
The work is intended to improve safety while making the corridor more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, according to county planners.
Design work is currently underway, and right-of-way acquisition is expected to begin this spring, followed by utility relocation in 2027. The county anticipates advertising the project for construction in 2028, with crews breaking ground later that year.
Schedules remain preliminary and could shift as design work continues and property acquisition and utility coordination move forward in the coming months, according to officials.
