Henrico supervisors to hold public hearing March 24 on proposed budget, vote on bonds for new multifamily housing
The Henrico Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing March 24 at 5 p.m. on the county’s proposed $2-billion budget for 2026-2027.
The budget proposal, which the board will vote on April 14, includes $914 million for Henrico Schools, $223 million for Henrico Police and Fire, $202 million in healthcare, and $167 million for Public Utilities. The county also would fund a total of $344 million in capital projects across several departments.
Last week, supervisors met with the Henrico School Board to go over the county’s proposed budget for schools, and school board members expressed frustrations that the county’s budget would approve only 91 of 153 new staff positions.
At 6 p.m., the board of supervisors will meet to vote on the issuance of up to $7.5 million in bonds by Henrico’s Economic Development Authority to Carter Woods LV LLC, an affiliate of Better Housing Corporation, to develop a 53-unit multifamily rental housing facility on the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Dabbs House Road.
Other items the board is scheduled to vote on include:
• $1.8 million for the construction of a new Henrico Department of Social Services building;
• funds to three construction companies – to not exceed $2.5 million for any single project – for improvements to county sports facilities and parks;
• $24 million for the Westwood Sewage Pumping Station project and $2.5 million for the Mary Street Sewer replacement project;
• $6.5 million for the construction of a 1-mile shared use path for the Fall Line Trail – Villa Park project.
