Henrico supervisors pass bonds for new multifamily housing, funding for sewer and sports facility upgrades
At its public meeting March 24, the Henrico Board of Supervisors approved bonds of as much as $7.5 million to Carter Woods IV LLC, which will go toward constructing a 53-unit multifamily rental housing facility in the Varina District.
Carter Woods, an affiliate of the Better Housing Corporation, plans to construct the multifamily facility and adjacent community center near the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Dabbs House Road, where the existing Carter Woods complex is located. The bonds will be issued by the Henrico Economic Development Authority.
The board approved annual contracts of as much as $10 million each year (up to $2.5 million per project) for three architectural design and engineering companies for improvements to the county’s sports and park facilities. The county’s 2022 bond referendum approved about $37 million for upgrades to facilities such as sports fields, trail systems, parking lots, and public restrooms, said Henrico Recreation and Parks Director John Zannino.
The board also approved the following:
• a $24 million construction contract for the Westwood Sewage Pumping Station project;
• a $2.5 million construction contract for the Mary Street Sewer replacement project;
• a $6.5 million construction contract for the Fall Line Trail – Villa Park project along the Brook Road corridor;
• and a $1.8 million contract for construction manager at risk services for the creation of the new Henrico Department of Social Services building.
Board members also held a public hearing on the proposed county budget, but no speakers from the public attended.
