Henrico supervisors expected to vote on plans for Glover Park baseball complex, Short Pump transportation project
The Henrico Board of Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday to consider the construction of a college-level baseball field complex in Glover Park and a transportation improvement project in Short Pump.
On Tuesday, the board is set to convey 12.6 acres of county land in Glen Allen’s Glover Park to the Henrico Sports and Entertainment Authority, which the county will use along with an additional 21 acres in the park to construct six new diamond baseball fields with stadium seating – which the county hopes will attract college-level baseball tournaments.
The county also is adding other amenities to the park, including a dog park, a large playground, and nature trails, and expects to open those new features this spring.
Henrico supervisors also are set to approve the county’s application for a $25 million federal grant to help fund the Short Pump Area Improvements project, an initiative to expand several highways near Short Pump to improve traffic flow. The project is estimated to cost a total of $167 million, with Henrico pursuing other local and state sources for funding.
The supervisors are scheduled to consider on several other items, as well:
• a case to rezone two acres of land northwest of the intersection between Tiller Road and Brennen Robert Place (Brookland District) to build three new single-family homes. The Henrico Planning Commission recommended the supervisors deny the case;
• a $5.7 million contract to rehabilitate the East Highland Park sewer system (Fairfield District);
• a $1 million contract to restore the Ridgefield Parkway BMP and streams near Stoney Run (Three Chopt District);
• a resolution that would officially end the state of local emergency declared by the county on Jan. 23 in preparation for Winter Storm Fern;
• a provisional use permit request by Deep Run Roadhouse that would allow an outdoor cooking and dining area on the northwest intersection of John Rolfe Parkway and Ridgefield Parkway (Tuckahoe District). The planning commission voted in favor of the request.
The board of supervisors will also meet at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday to receive updates on the winter storm, the Virginia250 initiative, and county drainage projects.
