Henrico Schools to close April 21 for special redistricting election; March 19 to become full instructional day
Henrico County public schools will be closed on Tuesday, April 21, as the result of a special redistricting election scheduled that day that will require the use of several dozen schools.
In order to make up the time, the school system will convert March 19 (previously planned as a half-day) to a full school day, officials said March 9.
The school system's updated calendar reflects the changes; officials said that should weather or an emergency force the closure of schools during the rest of the school year, the division will use remote learning to make up lost instructional time.
HCPS closes schools on election days in order to keep its existing safety measures in effect, but 12-month employees will report to work as usual April 21.
