For the third consecutive year, Forbes has named Henrico County Public Schools to its list of Virginia’s top employers, ranking the school system No. 29 in its 2025 ratings of the best employers by state.

HCPS was the only school division in central Virginia to receive the designation for 2025 and ranks as the top K-12 school division on the business media company’s tally of Virginia’s “Best-in-State Employers.”

To create the 51 lists — one for each state and the District of Columbia — a market research firm surveyed more than 160,000 people who work for employers with at least 500 staff members. Respondents were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer, and to evaluate their workplaces on factors like wage parity, culture, paths to advancement and employer responsiveness.

“We understand the critical role that all employees have in the success of our students,” said Amy Cashwell, HCPS superintendent. “We appreciate that each employee brings unique talents and perspectives that enrich our school community and are committed to creating a workplace where staff have a voice and are valued. This award highlights the school division’s success in recruiting, engaging, rewarding and retaining a phenomenal team of educators.”

Henrico County Public Schools employs more than 7,000 staff members, who serve nearly 50,000 students. With the addition of this year’s 6% raise for all HCPS employees, teacher salaries have increased by 38.3% during the last five years.

The school division also offers platinum level healthcare plans and a career ladder program that allows teachers, support staff and school administrators to develop professionally, earn specialized credentials and increase their pay without leaving their current role or the classroom.

Henrico County Public Schools’ Department of Human Resources will hold a job fair Sept. 10 from noon to p.m. at the HCPS Parham Road officers, 1910 East Parham Road, to fill open positions for the 2025-26 school year.
