Henrico Schools completes several HVAC repairs, but 13 schools still experiencing issues
Since March 20, Henrico County Public Schools officials have fully repaired HVAC systems at five schools but still are working to fix issues at 13 remaining schools.
The school division reported on March 20 that 13 schools were experiencing HVAC issues, including four schools that lacked working HVAC schoolwide. Of that list of 13 schools, eight are still struggling with heating and/or air conditioning issues as of April 8, according to HCPS spokesperson Eileen Cox. An additional five schools also are experiencing issues.
Following the release of HCPS’ list of schools March 20, many parents and community members spoke out about additional schools not included in the division’s report that may be experiencing issues. Most of those schools “may have experienced heating or cooling issues at other points in the school year” but currently have functional HVAC, said Cox.
However, the division did mistakenly leave one school, Brookland Middle School, off of the March 20 list; the building is still awaiting final HVAC repairs as of April 8. Since March 20, HCPS also has identified issues at an additional four schools.

While some community members have voiced concerns about HVAC systems at Glen Lea Elementary, Gayton Elementary, Longdale Elementary, and Holman Middle, Cox said that there are no current HVAC issues reported at any of these buildings.
HCPS has consistently struggled with HVAC issues over the past few months. Schools such as Lakeside Elementary, Montrose Elementary, Skipwith Elementary, and Carver Elementary have dealt with heating or cooling issues since February. Other schools such as Maybeury Elementary and Echo Lake Elementary lacked functional HVAC earlier this year but have since been repaired.
