Henrico Schools appoints new chief of staff after Coy departs for VDOE
Henrico Schools has hired Fairfax’s Michelle Boyd as the new HCPS Chief of Staff, according to a Feb. 26 release, following Holly Coy’s departure to the Virginia Department of Education.
Boyd currently serves as a regional assistant superintendent for Fairfax County Public Schools. She has previously held leadership roles in special education programs at Fairfax and Charlottesville, and began her career as a special education teacher.
Boyd remains an “advocate for students with disabilities” and has a “deep understanding of school operations and strategies to support student achievement,” said HCPS Superintendent Amy Cashwell.
“Dr. Boyd is an innovative and collaborative leader with a proven track record of meaningful results,” she said. “Her work aligning resources and people has contributed to measurable gains in Algebra I enrollment, English Learner progress, and reading proficiency among students with disabilities.”
Boyd, who will officially join HCPS in March, will work with HCPS’ central office and school leaders to coordinate the division’s operations and lead policy development. Her family lives in Henrico County and her children are recent HCPS graduates.
“I am energized to join the Henrico team and serve a community that means so much to my family,” Boyd said. “My children had an outstanding school experience, and I know first-hand the division’s commitment to students and employees.”
HCPS’ previous chief of staff Holly Coy was appointed as the VDOE’s new chief of staff earlier this month. Coy served as HCPS’ chief of staff beginning in 2022 and as an assistant superintendent for the VDOE under former governor Ralph Northam. She also held previous positions as Virginia’s Deputy Secretary of Education and as Northam’s policy director.
