Henrico Planning Commission to revisit Varina data center, Fairfield subdivision proposals Sept. 11

At its Sept. 11 meeting, the Henrico Planning Commission will revisit two proposals deferred from its August meeting.
The first is a controversial plan to locate a data center in Varina, on land along Darbytown Road near Laburnum Avenue, proposed by Wagner Urban Logistics LLC. The proposal includes a 150-foot buffer and two entrances on Darbytown, along with a service entrance on the north side.
Planning Department staff had recommended approval, but the proposal received largely negative feedback from nearly 100 area residents at an Aug. 6 public meeting. The proposed site would be right across the road from the New Market Village neighborhood and just half a mile from George F. Baker Elementary School.
On Sept. 5, Varina District Supervisor Tyrone Nelson posted on his Facebook page that he would be voting against the proposal when it reaches the board of supervisors.
The second deferred proposal is for a 57-townhouse development at the corner of Mountain Road and Woodman Road in Glen Allen.
The eight-acre site is currently vacant with a stream and its floodplain on the western side. The plan includes the townhomes, a park, and a sidewalk along the south side of Mountain, on the same side as the only entrance. Planning Department staff had suggested some additional changes to the proposal, which the past month may have allowed the developer, HHH Land LLC, to incorporate.
