The Henrico Division of Fire is among seven six public safety agencies in Metro Richmond teaming up for the inaugural Richmond Public Safety Flag Football Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. at Gillies Creek Park football field, 4425 Williamsburg Avenue in the city.
The friendly 7-on-7 competition will feature teams from Henrico Fire, Richmond Fire, Richmond Police, Richmond Sheriff’s Office, Chesterfield Fire and Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Central Virginia Burn Camp, a nonprofit that provides a free, week-long summer camp for children who have survived burn injuries. The camp is designed to build confidence, create community, and help children know they're not alone in their recovery journey.
“We’re excited to bring our public safety community together for some healthy competition, all while supporting such a meaningful cause,” said Jeffrey Segal, Richmond Fire Department’s interim chief. “It’s a chance for families to come out, cheer on their local first responders, and make a difference for kids in our region.”
The event is hosted by Richmond Firefighters Local 995 and supported by sponsors, including VCU Health, Mission BBQ, and the Metro Richmond Flying Squad. It is free and open to the public.
