The Henrico Citizen is now accepting applications for membership in its 2024 Citizen Advisory Board.

The board has several goals and responsibilities:
• to help better connect the Henrico Citizen with the communities and people it serves;
• to provide ideas and community input about potential coverage topics;
• to assist the Citizen with revenue growth and financial sustainability.
The Citizen Advisory Board will meet 10 times between March 2024 and February 2025. Members should be willing to commit to attending at least 7 of those meetings and to participate in regular email discussions with fellow board members. Each member also will be assigned to one subcommittee (focused upon revenue, community engagement or coverage)

2024 Henrico Citizen Advisory Board
The Henrico Citizen Advisory Board is a 15-member group of volunteers who seek to contribute to, and help strengthen, the Henrico Citizen’s efforts to serve Henrico County.
The board consists of three members from each of the county’s five magisterial districts, whose roles individually may include some or all of the list below:
• to serve as community liaisons between the Henrico Citizen and the Henrico communities and organizations of which they are civically-engaged members;
• to serve as bridge-builders between the Henrico Citizen and their respective magisterial communities within Henrico County;
• to assist in strengthening community trust in the local journalism of the Henrico Citizen;
• to connect Citizen staff members with the community, neighborhood or volunteer organizations with which they work or are familiar to for possible visits, discussions and/or presentations about the Henrico Citizen;
• to assist with and help foster general outreach efforts;
• to assist in advising the Henrico Citizen’s staff of possible coverage topics;
• to provide feedback about previous coverage;
• to assist with identifying and addressing any unintentional “blind spots” that may exist in the Henrico Citizen’s news and event coverage;
• to devise or assist with potential revenue-growth opportunities;
• to represent the Citizen at community events;
• to represent the Citizen at community listening sessions;
• to assist in providing objective input about future Henrico Citizen business decisions.
Henrico Citizen Advisory Board applicant requirements
The Citizen seeks a diverse advisory board, comprising members from various geographic, economic, racial, ethnic and economic communities. Applicants should be readers of the Henrico Citizen and civically-engaged citizens of Henrico County who seek to further their contribution to their community through service. They also should be interested in assisting in establishing or strengthening relationships between citizens and organizations in their personal spheres of influence and the Henrico Citizen.
Applicants should plan to commit to attending a minimum of 7 of the board’s 10 monthly meetings in 2023 and participating in a group email discussion(s) as appropriate. Applicants also should be willing to commit to serving on a subcommittee with a specific focus on a topic of significance.
Meeting schedule
The Citizen Advisory Board likely will hold one-hour meetings on 10 Tuesdays or Thursdays (two in-person and eight virtually), either during lunch or in the early evening.
