At a 6 p.m. meeting on Sept. 9, the Henrico Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on two rezoning cases that if approved would allow 49 new single-family homes to be built in Highland Springs and 32 new single-family homes to be built in the Fairfield District.
At a meeting on Aug. 12, multiple Varina District residents spoke up about the proposed 49-home development, with some in favor of new housing in the area and others vehemently opposed to adding more denser development. The board decided to defer voting on the case until Sept. 9.
Members of the public will not have the opportunity to speak on the case at the Sept. 9 meeting, as a public hearing was already held on Aug. 12.

The development of up to 49 single-family homes would be located on a 36-area parcel northeast of the intersection between North Airport Drive and North Washington Street.
Supervisors also will hold a public hearing and likely vote on a rezoning case that would approve a housing development of up to 32 single-family homes on a 7.7 acre parcel about 1,500 feet southeast of the intersection between North Laburnum Avenue and Creighton Road.
The board also will vote on a third rezoning case that would amend proffers made involving a 4-acre site about 530 feet south of the intersection of Skipwith Road and West Broad Street, 3-acres of which is already a car dealership and 1-acre which is currently vacant. The amendment would remove the requirement that any entrance connecting the site to Skipwith Road be gated to limit vehicle access.
During a 4:15 p.m. special meeting on Sept. 9, the board will hear updates on a community-based doula program sponsored by the county, Henrico’s inclement weather partnership, the county’s universal broadband access project, and an economic study done on the new Henrico Sports & Events Center.
