The Glen Allen girls' softball team won the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship on its home field June 14, defeating Western Branch 7-4.
The Jaguars fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but grabbed the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning of their own, then added three more runs in the top of the seventh and final inning. Western Branch plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh but that wasn’t enough to overcome Glen Allen’s lead.
Sophomore Ila Golding drove in three of the Jaguars’ runs, going 2 for 4 with a triple, while senior Mauve Haun knocked in two more and scored a run. Senior Ally Von Herbals had a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.
Junior Jaidyn Tillman also drove in a run with a hit and pitched a complete game, scattering 10 hits and three walks while striking out five batters to help lead her team to its first state championship in the sport.
