Girl killed riding bike across Three Chopt Road

Police have released new information about an 11-year-old girl killed while riding her bike along Three Chopt Road near Ridge Elementary School at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
"The preliminary investigation indicates the victim and another juvenile (male) were on a bicycle and electric scooter when they attempted to cross Three Chopt Road. A vehicle traveling east on Three Chopt Road avoided hitting the juvenile on the scooter but struck the bicyclist when she tried to cross the road," a Henrico police spokesperson wrote in an email about the situation.
"The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Speed and alcohol are not factors involved in this crash. The investigation also indicates the bicyclist was not wearing protective equipment."
