Henrico-based Richmond Floorball Club to launch fall league with free community kickoff night Sept. 8

After drawing international players and overtime excitement at the Atlantic Floorball Open last week, the Henrico-based Richmond Floorball Club will host a free community kickoff night and fall league launch on Monday, Sept. 8, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Barton Memorial Rink, 7232 Courtland Farm Road in Hanover.

Since June, RFC has welcomed more than 200 registrations across leagues, drop-ins, clinics, and tournaments. The Atlantic Open drew nearly 50 players from four states and Belgium, including a former Belgian national team player. The championship game featured sudden-death drama before the River Dogs claimed the title.

“Anyone can do it, any age, talent, size, whatever it is,” said Case Connor, U.S. U19 coach and former national team player, who led a clinic during the tournament.

Floorball is a fast-paced team sport similar to ice hockey but typically played on a gymnasium-style floor with sticks and a lightweight plastic ball.

The Sept. 8 kickoff will mirror the open-house style that launched RFC’s summer season at the Powhatan Ice Den. Equipment will be provided, and players will be grouped by age: children 6–10, youth 11–14/15, and ages 15/16 and older, with an option to join the adult group. League play at Barton will continue on Monday nights through October.

“We’re grateful to every player, parent, and partner who trusted us with this first summer at the Ice Den,” said RFC President Nick Baldaino. “The Barton kickoff on Sept. 8 carries that same open-door spirit into the fall — but we know the job’s not finished. There’s still so much more we can bring this community through the sport.”
