Henrico County knows a thing or two about sports. From packed football fields to the bustling new Henrico Sports Center, this community loves to play. But not every game requires helmets, whistles, or even sneakers. Some just need a board, a beanbag, and a good aim. Enter cornhole—a sport that’s as friendly as it is competitive, and one that’s quietly giving people more than just bragging rights.
A Workout You Don't Have to Dread
Cornhole won’t have you running laps, but you’ll be surprised how much movement sneaks in between tosses—bending, stepping, and throwing. It’s exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise, which may explain why players of all ages (and fitness levels) keep coming back for “just one more game.”

Stress Relief, One Bag at a Time
There’s something oddly calming about tossing a beanbag, watching it spin in the air, and hearing that satisfying thunk when it hits the board. It’s like meditation—but with more laughter and fewer yoga mats.
For Everyone—Really, Everyone
Cornhole is one of the few games where grandparents can play alongside grandkids, coworkers can pair up after work, and complete strangers can become fast friends by the end of a round. The rules are simple, the pace is casual, and there’s just enough competition to make it exciting without anyone taking it too seriously.

A Championship for Everyone
On Sunday, September 7, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, the Henrico Sports & Events Center in Glen Allen will host the Tri-Cities Social Cornhole Championship, presented by NES Cornhole and ESPN’s Mike King. But this isn’t your typical tournament—it’s designed to bring people together across generations, abilities, and skill levels for an afternoon of healthy, lighthearted fun.
Participants can register in one of several unique divisions:
· Hard Core Division – For competitive players who live and breathe cornhole
· Novice Division – Perfect for beginners or casual players looking for a good time
· Senior Division (65+) – Encouraging healthy movement, laughter, and friendly competition
· Teen Division – Let the next generation show off their skills
· Youth Division (12 and under) – A fun and supportive environment for kids
· Parent-Child Division – Teams of two from the same family take the boards together
· Triple Threat Challenge – One board, three holes, endless ways to show off your toss
Whether you're playing for fun, fitness, or family bonding, this championship is built to welcome anyone and while everyone’s competing for fun (and a few prizes), the event also gives back: a percentage of proceeds will benefit ThisAbility, an organization empowering individuals with disabilities.
