Support the Henrico Citizen

The Henrico Citizen, founded in 2001, is a daily weekday news source for Henrico County, Virginia. We help connect the community through daily weekday coverage of education, government, the community, business, events and much more across a host of digital platforms.

All of our coverage is and always has been free – but we need your help to continue doing this important work and to keep it accessible for everyone. Our local journalism keeps this community informed and combats misinformation.

Want to chip in to help? Here are four ways you can:

• Join the Citizen Collective
(A tiered membership program, with benefits, for supporters)

• Contribute to the Citizen Investigative Journalism Fund
(To help fund expanded, in-depth coverage of four key topics)

• Contribute to the Citizen Youth Sports Fund
(To help fund expanded coverage of community and high school sports)

• Make a general contribution
(To help support our work)

The Citizen Collective

Be a part of something bigger than yourself and join a community of others who care about Henrico County, its present and its future – and who value the importance of responsible local journalism. The Citizen Collective is a two-tiered membership program ($75 or $150 per year) that offers a variety of benefits, including an annual in-person event, free access to the Citizen’s Live@Lunch webinar series, occasional Zoom meetings with Citizen staff members, access to a members-only forum, free advertising for the nonprofit of your designation, and much more. (A complete list of benefits appears above.) Your membership helps us keep all of our coverage free for everyone – including, importantly, those who can’t afford to pay and who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the local news that matters to them. And, it connects you with other like-minded members who care about Henrico County.

Citizen Investigative Journalism Fund

There are many other topics of critical importance to Henrico – and we’d like to be able to give them the same level of regular, in-depth coverage our RFA partnership allows us to provide for education. But we need your help. Contributions to the Citizen Investigative Journalism fund will help support regular coverage of government, housing, healthcare and transportation – four key issues that readers have told us are most important to them. We aspire to fund a full-time position for a journalist through this fund. Your support may help us make that a reality – and help shine a light on the issues that are most critical to our community.

The Citizen Youth Sports Fund

Youth and high school sports are an important part of the Henrico community, and we are creating plans to launch new regular, original coverage of them. Do your children play sports? Would you like to read about their achievements and those of their friends, teammates and classmates? We want to provide this type of coverage, but we need your help to do so. All money contributed to the Citizen Youth Sports Fund will be used to assist with our staff-based coverage and to hire freelance journalists and photographers to provide coverage of youth and high school sports – and every dollar helps us make this a reality.
