Charges pending after 6-year-old boy killed in rollover wreck that closed I-64 East in Henrico
A 6-year-old boy was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in Henrico when a vehicle rolled over Sunday night, according to the Virginia State Police.
"Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 64 lost control while the driver was using a cellular phone. The vehicle spun in the roadway and struck the center guardrail. A second vehicle traveling behind the first attempted to avoid the initial crash, but the driver lost control and ran off the right side of the interstate, through a guardrail, and down an embankment before coming to rest against a tree," state police said Monday.
The boy, who was a passenger in the second vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected through the rear passenger-side window. He was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
