Celebrating 24 years without paywalls or clickbait
Table of Contents
Hi there,
Fair warning: you’re going to hear from us a little more than normal this week. Why? Because the Henrico Citizen turns 24 years old on Saturday, Sept. 20 — and instead of cake and balloons, we’re asking for something much less sugary but much more important: your support.
We’ve been telling Henrico’s stories since before some of our readers were even born. (Feeling old yet? We might be...) But unlike many news outlets these days, we've never employed a paywall; all of our coverage is and always has been free for everyone to access.
We think that's important, because what happens in a community that doesn't know what's happening? No one knows. (Ponder that one for a minute.)

All week, we'll be inviting you to become a contributing member – and we're sweetening the pot with a different giveaway each day.
🎁 And, all donors this week will be entered automatically into a raffle for one of our grand prize giveaways at the end of the week!
Today, we’re celebrating by asking you to chip in at least $24 in honor of our 24th birthday. It’s just $1 for every year we’ve been covering your schools, your neighborhoods, your government, and your neighbors.
And if you do, we'll send you a clear Henrico Citizen tote bag like the one pictured above (12" x 12" x 6") for free!
A longtime reader recently told us:
“The Citizen is the only outlet that consistently covers what’s happening in my community. Without it, I’d be in the dark.”
If you value having a reliable, independent and nonpartisan voice in Henrico, today’s the perfect day to show it.
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher

P.S. – If you’ve ever thought, “I’ll support the Citizen one day”… surprise! That day is today. 😉
