Candlelight vigil planned Jan. 22 in Henrico for 6-year-old killed in I-64 crash
A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Highland Springs Little League complex in memory of Justus Lee, the child killed in a crash on I-64 Jan. 18.
The vigil will take place on what would have been Lee's seventh birthday. He played baseball at HSLL. Attendees should bring their own candles.
Lee was riding with family in a vehicle that swerved to avoid an accident when the vehicle in front of it spun in the roadway and struck the center guardrail, according to Virginia State Police. Lee's vehicle ran off the interstate and down an embankment, ejecting Lee. The driver of the vehicle that caused the initial incident was using a cell phone at the time, according to police. Charges are pending.
Friends have established a GoFundMe page to assist Lee's parents with funeral expenses as well as food, housing cost, transportation, medical bills, mental health services, and basic needs as they take time off work to recover. The couple lost another child within the past year and recently welcomed a new baby to their family.
