Developer Greenberg Gibbons broke ground last week on Midtown64 – a more than $500-million mixed-use project that will take shape on 46 acres that formerly housed the Genworth Financial headquarters in Henrico's Near West End. Shamin Hotels is a joint-venture partner in the project. The site, located at the intersection of West Broad Street and Interstate 64, will feature 2 million square feet of space (including as much as 130,000 square feet of upscale retail, restaurant, and entertainment space) and will be anchored by a grocery store and new-to-market fitness concept, according to the developers. Midtown64 also will include as much as 300,000 square feet of Class A office space, a residential community with nearly 1,000 apartments, 194 townhomes built by homebuilder Lennar, and a 226-room dual-branded hotel, including Tempo by Hilton, one of the company’s newest brands. Construction and development firm Hourigan recently announced the appointment of Thomas Hatcher as vice president of Hourigan Development. Hatcher brings nearly a decade of leadership experience in investment management, portfolio strategy, and asset optimization across a diverse mix of office, industrial and hospitality properties nationwide. Most recently, he served as partner and managing director of Asset Management at Commonwealth Commercial Partners, where he led a team that at its peak numbered 13 people and oversaw more than 11 million square feet of commercial assets and 1,500 hospitality keys under management. In his new role, Hatcher will work closely with Matthew Hourigan, vice president, to drive the pursuit of new business development activities, as well as the firm’s investment and asset strategy initiatives. A graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Hatcher is recognized for his collaborative leadership style, deep understanding of real estate fundamentals, and ability to deliver measurable performance for investors and clients alike.
EJL Properties of Virginia LLC recently purchased a 2,841-square-foot office building at 12540 Patterson Avenue in Henrico County from 2025 Monument Ave, LLC for $560,000 as an investment. Sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer Academy Sports + Outdoors recently surprised 20 kids from Big Sisters Big Brothers of Greater Richmond with a $3,000 holiday shopping spree. Each child received a $150 gift card to shop the store for new apparel, fan gear, shoes and sporting equipment. Academy Sports + Outdoors is located in Short Pump. Academy’s donation is one of several across each state this holiday season.
