The Brook Road Virginia DMV service center in northern Henrico will close and move to a new location in Ashland sometime this spring, a DMV official confirmed earlier this month to the Citizen.
The new location, at 251 North Washington Highway (just a few blocks from Randolph Macon College), is about 8 miles north of the Brook Road site, which opened to customers May 11, 1998.
The agency is relocating the center because it was outgrowing the Brook Road site; the new location will have four additional service windows and a more efficient counter design, DMV spokesperson Jessica Cowardin told the Citizen.
The existing location, which the DMV leases at a rate of $117,413.64 annually, likely will close less than a week before the new one opens, Cowardin said.
The DMV operates service centers at two other spots in Henrico: 9237 Quioccasin Road in the West End and 5517 South Laburnum Avenue in Eastern Henrico.
