Annual bike build takes over raceway

More than 100 volunteers gathered at Richmond Raceway Nov. 1 to assemble 550 new bikes as part of the Bikes for Kids program.
Founded in 2002 by Dee Nuckols, the program distributes hundreds of bikes annually to Christmas Mothers across central Virginia, and also partners with public schools and Jewish Family Services to get them to needy kids.
The bikes are purchased through the efforts of the Richmond Area Bicycle Association, which raises funds through the RABA Foundation to buy bikes and helmets and works with community partners to give them out. Most of the bikes will be delivered by RABA club volunteers in December.

RABA Foundation President Andrew Mann, who currently coordinates Bikes for Kids, noted that other supporters of the program include Richmond Raceway, which donates space for the bike build, and Estes Trucking, which delivers the bikes from South Carolina.
