'All Henrico Reads' to feature Walter Mosley March 26
Henrico’s long-running literary event All Henrico Reads will return on Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. with Walter Mosley. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Henrico Sports & Events Center, at 1 All Star Boulevard in Glen Allen
Mosley will talk about his latest book Gray Dawn, a mystery that continues the story of detective Easy Rawlins, the popular protagonist of his best-selling novel and the movie starring Denzel Washington, Devil in a Blue Dress.
In Gray Dawn, Easy has settled into the happy rhythm of his successful, new life when a dark siren from his past returns and threatens to destroy the peace he’s fought hard to secure. The setting is 1970s Los Angeles, a transient city of delicate, violent balances, with a mysterious woman holding a secret that will upend Easy’s life.
Mosley is one of America’s most celebrated writers, lauded for his work across the arts. His writings have been translated into 25 languages. With more than 60 books to his credit, he defies classification but is best known for his detective novels, having earned awards across the mystery-writing genre.
Mosley’s honors include the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, the Mystery Writers of America's Grand Master Edgar Award, the Crime Writers' Association Diamond Dagger, the New York State Writers Hall of Fame, and lifetime achievement awards from both PEN America and the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The NAACP has honored Mosley a record three times with the Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in Fiction.
Mosley’s work can be found on bookshelves, periodical kiosks, newspaper stands, television, stage, film, and recordings. He served as executive producer and writer for the series “Snowfall” on TV's FX channel, and “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” adapted into an acclaimed AppleTV+ series starring Samuel L. Jackson. The recently released thriller film The Man in My Basement is based on his 2004 novel of the same name. He divides his time between Brooklyn and Santa Monica.
“It is an honor to have Walter Mosley as our author for All Henrico Reads 2026,” Henrico County Public Library Director Barbara Weedman said. “We’re thrilled to invite and welcome the community to this highly anticipated event. We are grateful to our Friends of Henrico County Public Library and Henrico County Public Schools for a successful and enduring partnership that makes this event possible each year.”
All Henrico Reads is a one book reading program, encouraging members of the community to read the same book or a book along the same topic.
Readers can discuss it together in Henrico County Public Library book groups or on their own, and all are invited to hear the author speak at the public event.
By bringing people together over a common topic, the aim is to encourage a sense of community, promote literacy, and foster a love for the connecting power of literature. All Henrico Reads is sponsored by the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, Henrico County Public Library, and Henrico County Public Schools.
